Volunteers - Families
Family Selection Committee
Because each Habitat home is custom built for the selected family, this Committee has a multi-step process to choose families that fit the criteria of Habitat for Humanity International. The selection process includes an application (e.g., employment, family information, credit check), home visit, and review of willingness to partner with Habitat. Members of this committee enjoy working with people, and often have experience in human or social services , education or financial background, but others are welcome. The Committee meets weekly during a cycle of selecting families, usually in the late afternoon.
Family Partner Committee
New homeowners to a Habitat house often benefit from having a partner to walk through the process of attaining and maintaining homeownership, and reinforcing lifestyle decisions that will ensure success. Members of this Committee come from all walks of life, and the benefits of this reciprocal relationship can last a lifetime. Family Partners are expected to meet or speak with their homeowner partner at least weekly, and meet routinely with the Committee and in workshops.
