Mission

Building Simple, Decent Houses with God's People in Need

Habitat for Humanity of Eagle and Lake Counties is a non-profit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. Habitat for Humanity seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from Eagle and Lake Counties, and Habitat strives to make decent housing a matter of conscience and action. Habitat invites people from all walks of life to work together in partnership to help build houses with families in need.

Through volunteer labor and tax-deductible donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and renovates simple, decent houses with the help of the homeowners, or Partner Families. Habitat houses are financed with no-profit, no-interest loans. The homeowners' monthly mortgage payments go into a revolving fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses.

Habitat is a hand-up, not a hand-out. In addition to a down payment and the monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor, or sweat equity, into building their houses and the houses of others.

Families in need of decent shelter apply for a Habitat home. The Habitat Family Selection Committee chooses homeowners based on their 1.  need, 2.  willingness to partner, and 3.  their ability to repay the no-interest loan. Partner Families are chosen without regard to race, religion, or other potentially discriminatory factors.

Habitat for Humanity is a volunteer movement. Interested community members from all walks of life come together as volunteers to carry out the important work of home construction, family selection and support, fundraising, finding land and other critical tasks of the Habitat affiliate. The lifeblood of Habitat are the volunteers, whose spirit represents putting faith into action to eliminate poverty housing.
